La Châtaigne: Indulge in Exquisite French Pastries in Lafayette, CA

Arrive early to avoid items selling out. Yes, it's that good. Nowhere to sit inside, cute bistro tables and chairs outside. I haven't had anything I didn't like there. My favorite go to is a cappuccino with a chocolate croissant. Enjoy!

New Sunday morning pastry routine! Possibly the best pain au chocolat I've had in the Bay Area. There was a small line when we arrived and a much longer one by the time we left - but well worth the wait! We sat outside with our toddler on the small bistro tables outside and devoured our croissant.

One of the best hole in the walls you will ever find. The chocolate and almond croissants are my personal favorites, but everything I have tried is very delicious.They stick to a very traditional French technique for baking and nail it every time. They do open at 8am and usually there is a line on the weekends. They can sell out of their baked goods early on. The space is tight so only a limited amount of people can be inside ordering, if you forget or don't read the signs they will be quick to remind you (sometimes in a not so nice way). Although this is just a window service establishment, it is not pet friendly (they will also be quick to tell you that so consider yourself warned). Overall amazing food, just not very friendly.

We stopped in for coffee and take away pastries for the family back home. Coffee was perfect. I like macchiatos which are usually made like a latte. Both sweet and savory pastries were amazing. Service was good. Ambiance is standing room only but they do have a few outdoor tables and parking is easy.

I love good-quality baked goods and pastries, and I am happy that I got to try some of the items from this place. Croissants - these croissants were so good and fresh, and even when I consumed it a couple of days after I bought it, the croissant was still soft and the buttery taste really came through really nicely. Not to mention that the look of these croissants was stunning. I especially loved the shine on the outer crust of the croissants. These croissants were gorgeous. Bostock - I'm glad that I tried new things, but honestly I am not a big fan of this one. From the look of it, this pastry looked like it was going to be dense like a lemon bar or something, but upon the first bite, the texture was more akin to a croissant, weirdly. So maybe because the texture I was getting did not match what I had expected, that really threw me off. I also didn't think that the slivered almonds added anything to the pastry. It was in general still pretty good, but I probably wouldn't get this again. All in all, the baked goods from this place are great.

This little French bakery is located in a little shopping mall. Lots of parking but is metered parking. I came here on a Saturday around 11AM and there was a long line out the door of people waiting to buy croissants. By the time I was able to get in, they ran out of French butter croissants and only had regular and chocolate. The limit is 4 of each croissant per customer. Also, there is a limit of 4 guests at a time in the bakery since it is extremely petite in size. Although I was bummed about not being able to get my French butter croissants, I grabbed a few regular ones and a few chocolate ones for my family to indulge. These croissants blow all the croissants I ever had out of the water! It is so flaky and buttery. They are so delicious that I always drop by when I am close by.

What a gem this place is ! The quality of the pastries are spot on - that is probably due to Michael's craft and using all the right ingredients. Walk in and you will smell the butter. Forget la farine. These pains au chocolat are the real deal and I am know my viennoiserie. It is a micro shop. Not huge quantities are baked unlike la fournée in Berkeley so you won't be able to by other 4 of anything. That's Michael's way of looking after all his customers - making sure there is some for everyone. Closes early in the afternoon (4 pm )

This petit bistro size mini market has a lot in tiny SF City size and worth the wait but watch out line starts outside! Oeuf, we cut a pence off, I apologize but the adult No comprenevous or just unacceptable. Fresh unique and peasant breads no Epi but baguette and shaped olive bread. Touche'! Great all things rural France, seating tableau outside, summer and nice accompanyments. Even chocolates, chocolate chaud, croquet monsieur basic but DO excellent por buerre via France. It's like a provence visit other than M/It's not too expensive either. Couple ran and they pour their heart into for producing wonderful items gastrique!
